On May 20, 2023, the Baku City Youth and Sports Head Department, in association with the Azerbaijan National Sports Types Association and the organizational efforts of the World Alpagut Federation’s Azerbaijan representation, hosted the Baku City Open Tournament. The event was dedicated to the 100th birth anniversary of the national leader, Heydar Aliyev.

The official opening ceremony saw the participation of distinguished guests such as Ragif Abbasov, Head of the Baku City Youth and Sports Department; Konul Nurullayeva, First Vice President of the World Alpagut Federation and Member of Azerbaijan National Assembly; Farid Alizade, President of the International Turan Games Committee; and members of the World Alpagut Federation’s Management Board, including Emil Rahimov and Farhad Aliyev.

The President of the WAF Azerbaijan representation, Gudrat Nuriyev, Vice President Nurana Shikhalieva, and others such as Barat Orujov, the authorized representative of the World Martial Arts Games Committee in Azerbaijan, and Fariz Abdullayev, head of the Real Aikido Public Union were also in attendance.

Held at the Azerbaijan Volleyball Center, the Open Baku Tournament tested the strength of nearly 300 athletes from around 40 branches across the republic, competing in the Alpagut Martial Art’s Aicha, Batur, Jaymaz, Gurshag, and Kachut systems.

In the artistic part of the event, performances included a dance group comprised of young people from the Republic Children and Youth Development Center (RUGIM), led by Fazil Jafarov. Nihad Guluzade performed “Heydar Baba”, Serkhan Mirzayev performed “Iron Fist”, Nurbeniz Mardiyeva performed “Turan Come”, and Elmiraga Budaqov performed “People Will Say Heydar”. The artistic part was hosted by Nuray Hajizade.
